Dispute Resolution
We have conducted many cross-border contentious matters in the UK as well as in foreign jurisdictions. These include arbitration, litigation, advance, defence and counter-claims, advising on tactics and case management, injunction and security for costs applications, enforcement of foreign judgments and awards and mediation. Our clients have benefited from our tactical use of court proceedings and other alternative dispute resolutions methods in achieving their aims. We have acted for large Brazilian multi-nationals requiring assistance in joint venture disputes in the oil and gas sector worth hundreds of millions of pounds, to medium-sized disputes in the technology sectors involving Hong Kong, UK and South African jurisdictions with a value of approximately one million US dollars, to small company disputes in the leather export sector between Brazilian and UK companies to the value of just a few thousand pounds. We are able to give realistic representation through our dedicated advocacy team and network of trusted barristers.
Alternative Dispute Resolution
Alternative dispute resolution (ADR) schemes are becoming more and more popular. They are actively encouraged by the Courts and we have some experience in representing our clients and organising such schemes. ADR can often lead to a satisfactory and cost-effective solution to commercial disputes. The firm is able to assist clients in arbitration both internationally and domestically and also in respect of mediation and conciliation for commercial and employment disputes.

Employment
UK employment legislation creates an ever expanding scope for employees to take claims to employment tribunals and courts. We advise companies at every stage of an employment relationship. We are successful in advancing our clients’ cases at Employment Tribunal.
We represent clients in employment tribunals and court. We negotiate and settle claims resulting in the preparation of settlement and compromise agreements. We assist clients with any process under the ACAS scheme. We have undertaken claims against large institutions such as the NHS and the Rank Group as well as settled claims against smaller employers. Our lawyers have extensive experience in representation at Tribunals throughout the UK and have indeed undertaken referrals from the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and various advice centres. This is an area of law where our language skills have particularly attracted private clients within the South American and Far Eastern communities.
